2027 Salem 27RK

A king bed and a rear kitchen: the 2027 Forest River Salem 27RK travel trailer is a couples layout at Couch’s RV Nation. One slide-out, two recliners and a fireplace make the middle feel like a small living room. The plan still finds room for guests when you need it.

This Salem is a travel trailer with a king bed for empty nesters and newly retired couples. It suits couples who want a quiet layout with no bunk room to work around. Think of it as an empty-nester getaway for long weekends, with enough kitchen to stay a week or two. If you want more camper for your money, a rear kitchen and a private king bedroom are a strong place to start.

Up front, the Custom King bed sits in a private bedroom with overhead cabinets above it and wardrobes and shelves on both sides. Baggage doors outside give you exterior storage. The wardrobe at the bedroom’s rear roadside corner is marked on the plan for optional washer and dryer prep. Next comes the full bath, set between the bedroom and the living area, with a shower, toilet and sink. On the living side of the bath wall, an entertainment center with a fireplace faces the rear.

The living area is built for two, with room to spread out. Two recliners sit on the curb side near the entry door, and the roadside slide holds a dinette and a sofa. That makes quiet evenings at camp easy. One of you reads in a recliner while the other stretches out on the sofa. Is there room for visiting grandkids in the 27RK? Yes. The sofa and the dinette add sleeping space for guests, so the floorplan sleeps 6 when the family comes along. The recliners are for sitting, not sleeping.

The rear kitchen is the reason to pick this floorplan. It wraps the back curb-side corner in an L. The pantry and refrigerator sit on the rear wall, while the cooktop, microwave and overhead cabinets run along the curb side. A sink peninsula juts into the aisle, so you get counter space on three sides. Outside, the plan marks an outside fridge on the rear curb side, near the 20-foot awning.

The Best In Class Value Package brings adjustable textured roller shades, a backlit radius bathroom mirror and a built-in laundry hamper in the bedroom. It also includes roof mount solar prep that makes adding panels simpler later. Panels are not included. A heated and enclosed underbelly and the 15,000 BTU air conditioner upgrade round out the build.

How much does the 27RK weigh? Its dry weight is 6,863 lbs, with a hitch weight of 955 lbs and a cargo capacity of 2,892 lbs. It measures 33 feet 6 inches long, 96 inches wide and 11 feet 3 inches tall. Tanks hold 40 gallons of fresh water, 54 gallons of gray and 30 gallons of black. Every truck is different, so compare your own tow and payload ratings to the dry weight plus your full load, not the dry weight alone.

Is the 27RK a good travel trailer for a retired couple? For most couples, it is. You get a king bed behind its own wall, two recliners, a real kitchen at the back and only one slide-out to manage at setup.
